I have just completed my first semester as of May 6th. I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around that. I have had the honor to work under so many talented students and faculty here at SVA. There has not been a single moment of regret since entering this program.
Having classes with professional artists and writers such as Lyle Rexer, Gus Powell, Charles Traub, Collier Schorr, etc. has exposed me to the reality of how making art is valued in this world. The various guest artists have been a great insight to me as an emerging artist. This is not an easy field to blossom in. With all the horrifying stories I have been told, I am going to push those aside and let my talent take its course. I have been blessed thus far. Charles Traub told me earlier that if I put my heart and soul into photography, it would take care me. I can honestly say there is not a moment in the day where the photographer within me has been challenged.
Well I can now say that the Guggenheim Museum has a piece of my work. I have just recently been informed that a video of mine (Into The Light, 2011) will be a part of the SVA and Guggenheim collaboration titled Stillspotting, NYC. There will be a website presenting the work and possibly a reception at the museum. I have also partaken in various group shows as well, thanks to my department and its reputation. Later this summer I am supposed to have a show in the SVA, Chelsea gallery.
Now that I am in, “the most important summer of my life” the stress is starting to build up. I have to return in the fall with enough work to complete my thesis. I am currently making work in Florida. The work is still too new to explain but I think its coming around. I will be positing it on my website in the next few weeks.

Mark Cohen's Portraits
Gus Powell, professor for my Master Critique class suggested I look at the work of Mark Cohen in relation to the portraits of Veterans. The more I looked at his work the more I thought of how I was using this style of photography for the work on my mother. Anyways, if you have not heard of him check his stuff out.

Fall Fashion Week Concludes
Gwin Stefani's concluded the Fall Fashion Week 2010 shows with her collection titled L.A.M.B. I attended Fashion Week on behalf of Tom Julian, if it was not for him I would have never had this opportunity. I almost forgot, I want to thank Kris Triplett as well (A.E.K.D.B). I learned a lot about fashion and the different designers in the industry.
I have a whole new respect for fashion and the people involved with it. It inspired me so much I went out and bought a pair of Levi Slim Straight leg jeans. That last part was a joke but seriously I did buy a pair of new Levi's to wear tonight. Be sure to see me other photos from fashion week here.

Playing Around in NYC
I was photographing around Madison Square Park the other day and switched the camera from still to HD video mode. I was freezing all night while photographing but I think the results were worth it.
